This week students from Hostos have been contemplating whether or not they believe community college should be free, and why. Taking advantage of free community college classes themselves, the students had real-life experiences to back up their reasons. Leonor, one of our juniors who take classes at Hostos CC feel colleges should be tuition-free because "everyone has the right to an education. It's not fair that private colleges thrive off the money of the wealthy since it doesn't affect their pockets. Many people here in the Bronx can't get a higher education than high school because they don't want to take out college loans." This is an issue lots of people of color face. The financial stress of paying tution, amongst all other expeneses that come with college, as well as keeping up with the day-to-day cost of living can hinder some to going back to school. Week 2: April 9-13th was "This is College" week. This was an awesome time to profile the exciting range of educational programs at Hostos Community College. Students were shown there are more opportunities than they might expect and that there's a place for every hardworking student in higher education. Week 1: April 2-6th was "Why College Promise" week. Across the country, thousands of students are attending college at lower-than-ever costs, with the help of the College Promise Campaign. April is Community College Awareness Month!

Students from Hostos are participating in the College Promise campaign to appreciate our education from Hostos Community College. Being community college awareness month, now is a great time to cherish and reflect on all that our college bring to us. For the month of April, follow us through a movement to celebrate programs that open the doors to so many hardworking students to obtain a college education, and to make sure education from community colleges don't go under-appreciated.
